Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety
More than 200 deaths per year in North America are caused by lift trucks, or forklifts. Correct maintenance and inspection of lift truck tires can help to lessen the risk of mishaps.

Pre-Work Check
The tires on the forklift should be inspected at the beginning of each shift, inspected for signs of wear and damage. The air pressure inside the tires should be inspected to ensure the pressure is not too low. Low tire pressure could make the machinery susceptible to tip-overs when lifting loads.

Types of Tires
The choice of tire type should be based on the type of surface wherein the lift truck will be used. For indoor use, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are best. For surfaces which are smooth, tires tend to be smaller. Larger pneumatic tires are best for lift trucks for outdoor applications. Pneumatic tires are able to grip rough surfaces well because they have rubber tread and are air-filled.

Other Considerations
Based on Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines, all lift trucks need some periodic and some continual daily inspection which is performed each shift. The tires should be checked once more for any indication of damage, like for example wear or cuts.

Lift truck Safety
If you or your workers would be utilizing forklifts, correct training in lift truck safety is important. Lift truck accidents could result in serious personal injuries or death and lead to unmanageable financial hardship. Even minor accidents can cost your company money if the merchandise or the forklift are damaged during an accident. Be certain you really know a lot concerning forklift safety problems.
