Duties of a Forklift Operator

Battery Care and Maintenance
Caring for the forklift battery helps ensure a long life span for the unit. Proper care and maintenance consist of inspecting the water level inside the forklift battery about every five charge cycles, being careful not to overflow the water while filling the cell to just over the visible protector, and cleaning up any spills. Once a battery is charging, never interrupt the cycle.
PPE: Personal Protective Equipment
When performing works on the battery, like inspecting the water level, Personal Protective Equipment or PPE is required. Both eye protection and hand protection must be worn, and an acid spill kit and a fire extinguisher should be on hand. Forklift operators should observe safety rules at all times. The charging area should be kept clear of open flame and ventilated.
