History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was initially founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The first name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid in 1937, when the Salzgitter Group purchased a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machinery. During the year 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the following years.
