A type of equipment in the material handling business that can be used to raise and transport loads from one place to another is called a forklift. Each and every forklift component has a specific function. Various parts can be utilized to transport the load horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lift and lower the load. There are various types of masts for lifting loads to various heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: electric, gas, diesel and propane. The battery is situated in the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the rear of the truck.
Cab
Located in the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The steering wheel, gas pedal, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all located in the cab.
Frame
The truck frame carries all the largest parts of the forklift, including the counterweights, which are situated at the back to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
