In 1928 within La Clayette, France, the company Potain was born. Since then, Potain has been the world leader in tower crane production. They are responsible for more than 100,000 cranes installed and sold all-around the globe. At present, the company manufacturers over 60 models from different production plants in China, France, Italy, Portugal and Germany. The business represents numerous different product ranges utilized for various applications. These equipments are sold through an international Manitowoc dealer network.

The Potain family makes 3 different tower crane families. The self-erecting cranes are the smallest ones in the Potain range. These cranes range from 1 ton to 7.98 ton capacity. The next size up is the top-slewing cranes that are bigger and higher. These cranes range from 7.98 to 64 tons. Additionally, these are the biggest special application cranes which are custom-made. These units offer a reach capacity of 160 tons.

The company's top innovations include LLC series of hoists, the Vision Cab and the Dialog control system. The company's growing reputation has expanded their appeal with different models. Potain cranes are normally found on traditional construction sites, power stations, bridge building projects, ship-building projects and shipbuilding yards.

Manitowoc has 2 of their largest manufacturing facilities within the USA. The Manitowoc manufacturing facility is located within the state of Wisconsin. In this state, both the tower crane parts and crawler cranes are made in the state of Pennsylvania inside the Shady Grove plant. Here boom trucks and mobile cranes are built. Regional offices are located within Brazil and in Mexico. Additionally, the extensive dealer network situated all over the United States and Ohio provides support and coverage unrivalled by any other crane manufacturer.
