The forklift is an important piece of machinery in most companies that operate distribution centers, warehouses, storage handling and industrial facilities. This wonder equipment, the forklift is constructed of many parts, like the important carriage, the engine, the power source and the wheels. Forklifts usually have a variety of attachments as well. The following are some of the most essential lift truck components.
Lift Truck Engine - the lift truck is designed with a power source at the rear of the equipment. Different kinds of forklift truck have different types of engine that need varying power sources. For example, a forklift with an IC engine can have as its power source any of the following: LP gas, CNG gas, gasoline or diesel. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from fuel cells or a battery.
Truck Frame - the base of the lift truck and the most vital of all the forklift components is the truck frame. This forms the core of the machine. All other lift truck parts are connected to the base, like the mast, wheels, axles overhead guard and counterweight. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks may also be part of the frame assembly.
Counterweight Forklift Components - the counterweight is what enables the machine to be balanced while lifting heavy cargo. This part is made of heavy cast iron and is connected to the rear-end of the forklift truck. The counterbalance balances the frame of the truck to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being carried or lifted on the front. In an electric forklift, the heavy lead-acid battery gives balance and can work as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - The cab is also known as the operator compartment. Lift trucks will sometimes have closed cabs whilst others would be open to the air. There are really numerous components located within the cab for operating the forks. The cab contains such important parts like for example the levers, switches, steering wheel, operator controls, pedals and seats. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
